National tour premiere celebrates Moraes Moreira in Salvador
Starting August 14, Salvador hosts the national premiere of the ‘Moraes Musical Moreira’ tour, a production celebrating the work of Moraes Moreira (1947), one of the leading names in Bahia’s music and Brazilian popular music (MPB). The season runs at Teatro Castro Alves, in Campo Grande, through August 30, with performances on Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 5 p.m.
Directed by Ana Paula Bouzas, with a script by Fábio Espírito Santo and musical direction by João Milet Meirelles and Ronei Jorge, the production traces the artist’s journey from his arrival in Salvador to the major songs that defined his career, including ‘Acorda Raimundo,’ ‘Novidade,’ ‘Menino do Rio’ and ‘Baby.’

The role of Moraes Moreira is shared by Cris Meirelles and Rodrigo Sestrem, joined by Julia Tizumba as Musa Música. The full cast also includes Diana Ramos, Luisa Muricy, Kadu Veiga, Mano Leone, Nana Nevez, Ofámirô, Rapha Gouveia, Sabiá and Saulo Ilogoní, accompanied by a six-piece live band.
