The first edition takes place this Saturday, September 20, at the Mangue cultural space with debates, analyses and the special participation of rapper Tarcis

“Wheels and Rhymes” Project

The Mangue cultural space , located in Penha, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, will host the “Rodas e Rimas” project from this month , an initiative that promotes monthly meetings bringing together artists, cultural agents of Rio de Janeiro Rap, members of the local community and participants from different regions of the city.

With the aim of recognizing MCs as poets , the project is based on the understanding that writing is an essential element of the genre. Each meeting will be organized around a central theme—such as race, class, gender, territory, or sexuality—and will begin with a collective analysis of the lyrics of a guest MC. The methodology includes reading, interpretation, and discussion, creating a space for dialogue where different perspectives intersect, confront, and complement each other.

The first meeting will feature rapper and producer Tarcis , who will present his latest album, "Do Subúrbio à Central ." The album will serve as a basis for reflections on the right to territory, access to culture, and the social inequalities faced by Rio de Janeiro's peripheral neighborhoods.

Bringing a connection to the sun, summer, and heat, Rachel opens the project's season in one of the most iconic locations of the season in the country, with original songs, such as her latest and acclaimed album "Divina Casca," and covers of artists that inspire her.

"I'm thrilled to bring back this project, which is so special to me and the city's audience. It's a show designed entirely for the summer, with everyone's favorite hits, new tracks from my new album, and reinterpretations of songs that inspire me. We'll soon be announcing special guests who I'm sure will get everyone singing along," he says.

Rio de Janeiro is a state rich in culture, but this culture is still largely centralized in the South Zone, while what happens in other areas, such as the North Zone, Baixada, and West Zone, ends up being overlooked. Rodas e Rimas aims to make an impact precisely because it is a hub in the North Zone that aims to be a space for exchange, a project that drives cultural production as a whole in the region," says João Victor Lima , photographer, popular communicator, and one of the initiative's creators.

More than a musical genre, rap asserts itself as a tool for education, storytelling, identity, and resistance . By bringing artists, audiences, and the community together, Rodas e Rimas seeks to democratize access to art , encourage protagonism, and promote social inclusion, strengthening independent cultural production and preserving the memory of urban popular culture.
